Air Products’ so-called “Clean Energy Complex” would use fossil gas to produce hydrogen and ammonia, then capture and transport the resulting carbon dioxide waste through a new 38-mile pipeline running across five parishes — Ascension, St. James, St. John, Tangipahoa, and Livingston.
The pipeline would pass dangerously close to homes, schools, churches, and the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area before reaching Lake Maurepas, where the company plans to build 19 industrial platforms and inject carbon dioxide waste beneath the lakebed.
This project risks pollution, ecological destruction, and long-term harm to local communities and ecosystems.

Carbon dioxide pipelines can rupture suddenly, releasing an odorless, colorless gas that displaces oxygen and causes dizziness, confusion, or even loss of consciousness.
In 2020, a pipeline rupture in Mississippi hospitalized 45 people and forced hundreds to evacuate.
The Air Products route would pass within ½ mile of Sorrento Primary School, putting children, teachers, and families at risk.

The project would destroy hundreds of acres of wetlands in the Maurepas Swamp and bury pipelines beneath the lakebed. This could release contaminants, harm fish and crabs, and threaten the West Indian Manatee, a protected species found in Lake Maurepas.

The pipeline runs near neighborhoods, a school, churches, and a veterans’ home — all while destroying hundreds of acres of the Maurepas Swamp, a critical line of defense against flooding from storm surges.
It threatens property values, air quality, and the sense of safety families depend on.
These fact sheets outline the risks associated with the proposed Air Products project, including concerns over public safety and pollution, as well as threats to Lake Maurepas, wetlands, and nearby schools. Download and share them to stay informed and help others understand what’s at stake.
Air Products’ proposed plant site sits on historic Orange Grove Plantation, where more than 750 enslaved people once lived and labored in the 1800s.
Local residents and community groups have called for a full archaeological investigation to ensure any unmarked burial sites are protected before construction moves forward.
We have a duty to honor our history, protect our people, and safeguard the land and water that sustain us.
